Mahaprajapati Gautami School of Buddhist Studies (MGSSBS) is the first of its kind in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, dedicated to the propagation and development of Buddhism. Our center aspires to bridge Buddhism and other religious traditions, fostering dialogue and mutual understanding. The department moves forward with the core values of Sīla (Ethics), Samādhi (Concentration), Paññā (Wisdom), and Karuṇā (Compassion), essential for both personal growth and societal transformation.

In today’s world, individuals and societies face increasing challenges such as stress, anxiety, trauma, corruption, poverty, and discrimination. Global crises like war, terrorism, and insecurity continue to threaten peace and harmony. Buddhism, with its profound wisdom and ethical framework, offers solutions for inner and outer well-being.

Our department provides students with a unique opportunity to study Buddhism from a non-sectarian perspective, encouraging deep exploration of different Buddhist traditions. The curriculum integrates scriptural studies, languages, art, culture, and history, helping students understand Buddhism’s impact on South and East Asia. Through multidisciplinary academic training in humanities and social sciences, we aim to sharpen analytical skills and promote social liberation.

MGSSBS is a visionary project, born from the compassionate mission of Dr. Atul Krishna, to spread the true teachings of the Buddha for the benefit of all.
